GRK 2250/3 Winter Workshop 2026

  • 21.01. - 23.01.2026

  • Oberbärenburg, Germany

The Winter Workshop 2026 of the GRK2250/3 took place from 21st to 23rd of January in Oberbärenburg, Germany. This three-day event provided a valuable platform for doctoral researchers from the third cohort to present their research progress and discuss current challenges. The workshop fostered a dynamic environment for scientific exchange, enriched by constructive feedback and insights from associate members, principal investigators, and invited guest experts.
Several external experts were invited to contribute to the program. Professor Radoslav Sovják from Czech Technical University in Prague delivered a talk on the ballistic impact response of ultra-high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete. This topic is especially relevant for the research conducted within the GRK, and the talk was followed by engaging discussions on the topic. Professor Anna Pandolfi from Politecnico di Milano, Italy, shared her expertise in multiscale modeling of intersecting fracture networks. Her talk provided insights into advanced interface-modeling methods and their practical applications. The insightful contribution was especially important for researchers working on numerical simulations. Additionally, the GRK welcomed Professor Christoph Scope from HTW Dresden, who led a session on sustainability with a focus on building materials and construction, illustrating his message through several impactful practical examples while drawing connections between historical and modern building concepts.

Besides the discussions that followed each individual contribution, the workshop included dedicated timeslots for individual and group consultations to discuss ongoing and prospective collaborative research. Participants also worked together on planning the upcoming closing event of the GRK project. Finally, a dedicated session for presenting collaborative research was followed by discussions and constructive suggestions from the audience.

Beyond formal sessions, informal interactions during meals and coffee breaks strengthened scientific and personal connections among participants.  The highlight of the workshop was the team-building biathlon event that took place in the winter sports complex in Altenberg.
