GRK 2250/3 Winter Workshop 2025

  • 03.02. - 05.02.2025

  • Oberwiesenthal, Germany

The GRK2250/3 Winter Workshop 2025 took place from 3 to 5 February in Oberwiesenthal. The doctoral researchers of the third cohort had the opportunity to present the progress and findings of their research projects to all participants. This served as a valuable starting point for generating an excellent environment in which to benefit from the opinions and advice of the invited experts and the principal investigators.
The program included contributions from several invited experts. Prof. Sam Rigby (University of Sheffield, United Kingdom) delivered a talk on blast load and structural response characterization. Prof. Iurie Curosu (Ruhr-Universität Bochum) presented recent research focusing on fundamental investigations related to components of high-performance fiber-reinforced composites and their impact resistance. Prof. Ralf Müller (TU Darmstadt) introduced advanced numerical methods for phase field modeling of fracture and its applications. Finally, Prof. Gian Paolo Cimellaro (Politecnico di Torino) discussed a framework for the analytical quantification of disaster resilience in emergencies.

The workshop stimulated extensive scientific discussions and fruitful exchanges, both during the seminar sessions and during outdoor team activities and informal meetings. It also provided an opportunity to initiate and strengthen collaborative research. In particular, participants valuably contributed to the definition of key aspects related to the demonstrator of the GRK 2250 as the project moves towards its completion. Additionally, a special session was dedicated to presenting ongoing and planned collaborations between the individual research projects within GRK 2250.

The event was further enriched by informal exchanges and recreational activities. The outstanding natural setting of Oberwiesenthal and the facilities Hotel offered many team-building opportunities, fostering a relaxed and productive atmosphere.
