C2/II Analysis and evaluation of the sustainability and resilience of reinforcement measures with novel mineral-bonded composites

The resilience evaluation plays a decisive role in the assessment of the use of new composite materials and reinforcement concepts for increasing the impact safety of concrete and reinforced concrete structures, in addition to the sustainability evaluation. “Resilience thinking is a complement to sustainability, not a substitute” (E. Günther). Resilience assessment integrates various contextual phenomena – such as shocks or unexpected developments – into the assessment and, together with the sustainability assessment considered in the first cohort, enables a holistic and context-specific assessment.

Resilience assessment can be carried out from various disciplinary perspectives: from the ecological perspective, the security and reliability perspective, resilience engineering, the organisational psychological perspective, the strategic perspective and the cultural perspective. The ecological perspective distinguishes between the metaphor of the adaptation cycle, resilience in response to changes in the natural environment, and resources and capabilities. The security and reliability perspective considers protective factors for organisational resilience and management systems for resilience. For resilience engineering, the design is differentiated according to engineering principles and indicators, and the design of a resilient supply chain. The organisational psychology perspective looks at employee strengths, and the roles of managers and employees. The strategic perspective looks at strategic management, the micro-foundation of resilience and performance indicators. The cultural perspective distinguishes between organisational and national culture. A construct validity study identified the following components of resilience in the business literature. Resilience assessment includes both the evaluation of the preconditions of resilience and the potential for resilience, as well as the outcome and consequences of resilience:

The aim of this project is to develop a resilience assessment concept for new composite materials and reinforcement concepts for increasing the impact safety of concrete and reinforced concrete structures. The economic product perspective is chosen, which focuses on composite materials, and at the same time considers their embedding in structures and systems. The perspectives and components identified in the preliminary work will first be methodically combined, and then to ensure validation, applied to selected materials or structures developed in the GRK 2250.
